“The morning was quiet, as if still. Behind the haze lazily emerged the sounds and movements of awakening. Everything as always. Everything as it had been before. Everything as it would never be again. With the strange feeling that something was missing. They had disappeared. Sometime, at least they, except la ultima.”
Based on three short stories in which all but one of the women disappear as if by magic, La ultima constructs an improbable and imaginary universe in order to raise issues that are particularly dear to women and at the same time inherent to all human beings: the right to self-determination of the body, the physical and psychological autonomy of life. The short stories, created especially for the occasion of this choreographic creation, depict different unfoldings of such a situation.
In a society that is on the verge of an individualistic way of life, La Ultima shows, through a fictional extreme situation, that an individual matter is at the same time a collective matter and vice versa. The dance piece has the power to provoke reflection on the values and rules that drive our society, where they come from, how they affect us and, above all, our ethical responsibilities in this regard.
A fascinating, provocative and necessary dance piece.
