Overview
“The Fabulous Ones” is a dance piece in which the performers (dancers and musicians) combine instant composition with pre-arranged choreography and sound cores. The choreographer explores the themes of human inadequacy and the search for autonomy in the midst of mediocrity, encouraging the audience to reflect on their own existence.
This experimental work embraces risk and imperfection, driven by randomness, chaos, control, and sovereignty. The performers respond to real-time commands via headphones, embodying the fragmented, precarious, and arbitrary nature of existence. The piece highlights the beauty and curse of the ordinary, finite human body, showing it as both banal and precious.
The title reflects the paradox of human existence – each person is uniquely ordinary and yet equally significant. The performance invites the audience to reflect on the complexity and uncertainty of life and emphasizes the value of imperfection and the constant struggle for meaning.
This dance piece is a platform for creative exploration and critical thinking. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the evolving world and one’s own life. The piece helps to understand and question the intricacies of contemporary life.
Choreographie and Inspiration
Choreographer and dancer Elenita Queiroz brings her unique approach to this piece, combining philosophical and feminist themes with contemporary dance. Queiroz, known for her intuitive style and thoughtful, passionate performances, has been awarded the Werkbeiträge 2023 and the TanzPlan Ost Prize for Choreography 2021, among others.
Inspired by the work of photographer Miroslav Tichý, writer Sara Ahmed and artists such as Christoph Dräger and Paul Kooiker, Queiroz’s piece is the result of extensive research and collaboration. Queiroz’s interest is in the female figure, the ordinary, average and “blurred” body and the unpredictable nature of existence. She explores the raw, unfinished and imperfect aspects of life, finding beauty and triumph in mediocrity and randomness.
